Why Your Landing Page Gets Clicks But No Calls

Why Your Landing Page Gets Clicks But No Calls — Website & SEO article by Abhijit JK, brand and business growth consultant

Your Google ad is running. People are clicking. You are spending money. But the phone stays silent and the enquiry form is empty. Most business owners I meet immediately blame the ad — wrong keywords, wrong audience, wrong budget. But nine times out of ten, the ad is doing its job. The problem is what happens after the click.

A landing page is not just any page on your website. It is the specific page a visitor lands on after clicking your ad, your Google Business listing, your Instagram bio link, or a search result. It has one job — to turn that visitor into an enquiry. If it cannot do that one job, nothing else matters. Not your brand, not your years of experience, not your pricing.

Here is the most common mistake I see with landing pages built by Indian MSMEs and small businesses. The page talks entirely about the business. 'We are founded in 2005.' 'We have 50 employees.' 'We serve PAN India.' The visitor came because they have a problem. They want to know if you can solve it — fast. When they land on a page that talks only about you, they leave. Within seconds.

The second killer is a slow page. I have done brand analysis work for manufacturers and retail brands where the landing page took 8 to 11 seconds to load on a mobile connection. In India, most searches happen on mobile, often on a 4G connection that is not always strong. If your page takes more than 3 seconds to load, you are losing more than half your visitors before they even read a word. Check your page speed on Google PageSpeed Insights today. It is free and it takes five minutes.

Then there is the trust gap. Someone lands on your page for the first time. They do not know you. All they see is a form asking for their name, phone number, email and sometimes their company details. No testimonials. No photos of real work. No recognisable client names. No certifications. Nothing that says 'you can trust this business.' Would you fill that form? Most people would not. Add one or two real client results, a photo of your actual team or workspace, and a short line about who you have worked with. That small change moves people from hesitation to action.

Another thing that quietly kills conversions is the call to action. Most landing pages have a button that says 'Submit' or 'Send Enquiry.' That tells the visitor nothing about what happens next. Will someone call them? When? Will they get a quote by email? Change your button text to something like 'Get a Free Quote in 24 Hours' or 'Talk to Our Team Today.' It sounds small but it reduces anxiety. People click things when they know what comes next. If you are unsure whether your landing page has these problems, a business growth diagnostic can help you identify exactly where you are losing people.

One more thing that rarely gets discussed — the mismatch between the ad and the page. If your ad says 'Best Interior Designers in Pune for Offices' and your landing page is a generic home page showing residential living rooms, the visitor feels misled and confused. The page must match the promise of the ad, word for word, image for image. The visitor should feel like they have arrived at exactly the right place. This alignment alone can double your enquiry rate without changing anything else.

Local businesses often ignore one more opportunity. If you serve a specific city or area, say it clearly and early on the landing page. 'Serving businesses in Whitefield, Marathahalli and Koramangala' does more for local trust than a dozen fancy taglines. It also helps with local SEO because it signals to Google exactly who this page is for. Combine that with your address, a map embed, and a local phone number and you are building a page that both humans and Google understand.

A landing page is not a design project. It is a conversation with a stranger who is almost ready to buy. They just need a reason to take the next step. If you have been running ads or getting organic traffic but your enquiries are not coming in, do not increase your ad budget yet. Fix the page first. If you want a second pair of eyes on your current setup, book a one-to-one consultation and we will go through your landing page together and find exactly what is stopping people from calling you.
