Why Your Landing Page Gets Clicks But No Calls

Why Your Landing Page Gets Clicks But No Calls — Website & SEO article by Abhijit JK, brand and business growth consultant

Your ad is running. The clicks are coming in. But the phone doesn't ring and the enquiry form stays empty. Most business owners I meet assume the ad is the problem. So they change the headline. Tweak the budget. Try a new image. The clicks keep coming and the enquiries still don't. The problem is almost never the ad. It is what happens after the click.

A landing page has one job. Take a person who clicked and turn them into an enquiry. That's it. Not educate them. Not impress them with your company history. Not show them your full product catalogue. Just answer the one question in their head — 'Can this person actually solve my problem?' — and give them an easy way to reach you. Most landing pages I audit for Indian businesses fail at this completely.

The first thing I look at is the headline. When someone lands on your page, they decide in about three seconds whether to stay or leave. If your headline says something like 'Welcome to XYZ Solutions' or 'We Are a Leading Provider of...' — they are gone. Your headline needs to speak directly to what they searched for. If they searched 'industrial packaging supplier in Pune', your headline should confirm that they are in the right place. Something like 'Custom Industrial Packaging for Manufacturers in Pune — Ready in 5 Days.' That specific. That direct.

The second problem is trust. Indian buyers, especially B2B buyers, are cautious. They have been burned before by vendors who overpromised. A landing page without any social proof — no client names, no photos, no testimonials, no numbers — feels risky to them. You do not need a long list. Even two or three real client names or one genuine testimonial from a recognisable business changes the temperature of the page. I have seen this with manufacturers in Coimbatore and service businesses in Bengaluru — adding one real client logo above the enquiry form doubled their conversion rate. If you want to understand what else might be holding your website back, a proper brand analysis can surface these gaps quickly.

The third issue is the form itself. I see landing pages where the enquiry form asks for name, email, phone, company name, city, requirement, budget, and timeline — all mandatory fields. That is a job application, not an enquiry form. Every extra field you add is a reason for someone to abandon it. For most Indian B2B businesses, three fields are enough. Name, phone number, and one specific question about their requirement. That's all. If you need more information, get it on the call. The goal of the form is to start the conversation, not to finish it.

Speed is another silent killer. I run a quick speed test on almost every website I audit and I rarely find one that loads well on mobile in under three seconds. In India, a large chunk of your visitors are on a 4G connection, not a desktop with fibre. If your landing page takes more than four seconds to load, you are losing half your visitors before they even read a word. Large image files, too many plugins, uncompressed videos — these are fixable problems that most business owners do not even know exist. If you want someone to look at this with fresh eyes, a business growth diagnostic covers exactly this kind of structural issue.

One more thing I notice: too many exit points. A landing page should have no navigation menu, no links to your blog, no social media icons, no 'Read More' buttons leading elsewhere. Every link you add is a door out of the room. You spent money getting someone into that room. Keep them there. The only action available on a landing page should be the enquiry — call, form, or WhatsApp message. That's it. Remove everything else.

If you are running Google Ads or Meta Ads and sending traffic to your main website homepage instead of a dedicated landing page, that is worth addressing first. Your homepage is designed to do many things for many visitors. A landing page is designed to do one thing for one specific type of visitor. The mismatch between what someone clicked expecting to find and what your homepage actually says is often where the lead is lost. A quick one-to-one consultation can help you map this out for your specific business and ad campaigns in an hour.

This is very fixable work. You do not need a full website rebuild. In most cases, a single focused landing page — strong headline, three lines of proof, a simple form, and fast loading — can start converting your existing traffic into enquiries within the same month. Start with one campaign, one page, one clear offer. Measure it for two to three weeks. Then improve. Most Indian business owners spend far more time worrying about getting more traffic than converting the traffic they already have. Fix the leaking bucket before you pour in more water.
