Why Reels Get Views But No Business Enquiries

Why Reels Get Views But No Business Enquiries — Social Media article by Abhijit JK, brand and business growth consultant

Most business owners I meet are genuinely excited when a Reel crosses 10,000 views. And I understand why. It feels like the business is finally getting noticed. But then a week passes. No calls. No DMs from serious buyers. Maybe a few follows from people who will never buy anything. The excitement fades and the question surfaces — what is the point of all this?

Here is the real problem. Views and enquiries are not the same thing. They never were. A Reel can go viral for entertainment reasons and bring you zero business. A boring product demo with 300 views can get you three solid leads. The metric that matters is not how many people watched — it is how many people watched and thought, this is exactly what I need. Most Reels created by Indian business owners are built for reach, not for relevance. There is a big difference.

I have seen this with manufacturers, interior designers, food brands, coaching businesses — everyone makes the same mistake. They copy trending audio, add a flashy transition, show their product for two seconds and post it with fifteen hashtags. The algorithm gives it a push. Strangers watch it. Strangers move on. Nothing sticks. The Reel was built for the algorithm, not for the buyer. And the buyer can feel that.

The real job of a business Reel is not to entertain the internet. It is to make the right person stop, recognise their problem, see your solution and feel confident enough to reach out. That requires a very different approach. Your Reel needs to open with a line that speaks directly to the person you want to call you. Not everyone. That specific buyer. A textile manufacturer in Surat does not need 50,000 random viewers. He needs forty procurement managers in Mumbai to watch the full video and go to the profile link.

There is another thing I notice consistently. The Reel gets views but the profile does nothing with them. Someone watches, taps on the profile, sees a grid of pretty pictures with no clear explanation of what the business does or who it serves, and leaves. No link. No pinned post explaining services. No highlight with testimonials or process. The Reel did its job — it brought the person to the door. But the door was locked. If you want to understand how to build trust once someone lands on your profile, the same principles I cover in my one-to-one consultation apply directly here.

Here is a practical test. Watch your last five Reels with fresh eyes. Ask yourself three questions. First — does the first line speak to a specific buyer problem or situation? Second — does the Reel show the outcome or result a buyer can expect, not just the product? Third — is there a clear next step at the end — a link, a CTA, a reason to DM? Most Reels fail all three. They look good. They sound good. But they do not move the buyer forward.

The fix is not complicated but it does require a change in how you think about content. Stop planning Reels around trends. Start planning them around buyer questions. What does your buyer search for on Google? What does he ask before he decides to purchase? What objection does he have that you can address in sixty seconds? If you answer those questions on camera, consistently, the right people will find you. They will watch fully. They will message. I work through this exact framework with founders in my business growth workshops and the shift in how they think about content is immediate.

One more thing that kills conversion from Reels — the founder is never on camera. I understand the hesitation. It feels awkward. But a business where you never see the person behind it is harder to trust, especially in India where so much business still runs on personal relationships. Buyers want to see who they are dealing with. A founder who shows up on camera — even imperfectly — builds more trust than a polished brand account that never shows a human face. Your face is a brand asset. Use it.

If your Reels are getting views but not enquiries, do not make more Reels the answer. Fix the strategy first. Know who you are talking to. Speak to their specific situation. Make sure your profile converts visitors into enquiries. Give people a clear next step. And show up as yourself, not as a brand trying to imitate someone else's viral content. That is when Reels stop being a vanity metric and start being a genuine sales tool.
